I've noticed something pretty cool lately.
Since I started switching off my TV and watching the shows I like on the PC I've discovered two sitcoms that really make me laugh - Rules of Engagement and Happy Endings.
And it occurred to me last night that America has become a whole lot more comfortable with gay men. I know gay guys have been depicted in TV shows for a long time, but almost always as the one to ridicule, or the tragic lonely person. Even just ten years ago it was like that. Remember the constant failed and lonely relationships of Will?
I was a big fan of friends, and even though they went into the whole lesbian thing they never really had a gay male character.
So now we have the normal gay guy on Happy Endings who isn't camp as Christmas and doesn't adore soft furnishings, and we have the straight guy who acts pretty gay (and is a real hottie) on Rules of Engagement!
He is definitely hot isn't he? I was convinced all through the first season that he is actually gay, until I found out that he really is married and has two kids, lol
