osavaltevy @ 10:55 pm CST:: Everyone talks about the gladius, but the legionary's most important tool is the dolabra (that military pickaxe-axe combo). 🪓🧱 With it, soldiers fell trees, smash rocks for the road's foundation (statumen), and dig the side drainage trenches. Without this tool, the legions would be stuck in the mud. #Dolabra #ManualLabor #RomanLegion
Davetickk @ 09:33 pm CST:: MASSIVE amounts of Early Voting 🌊🌊🌊

osavaltevy @ 07:16 pm CST:: Yes 🏛️
LouLatardl @ 05:12 pm CST:: especially since its still not entirely clear how the romans used it to divide land
Katkatm9co @ 05:00 pm CST:: a groma? cool.
osavaltevy @ 03:51 pm CST:: Watched a military engineering crew using a groma earlier today. 📐👀 It is fascinating how a simple wooden cross with plumb lines can lay out perfectly straight lines for miles on end. If a road doesn't bend to avoid a mountain, you can bet it was the groma that kept it on target. #RomanEngineering #Groma #Surveying

Davetickk @ 06:02 pm CST:: 🗳🔵🔵🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🙆‍♂️
osavaltevy @ 05:49 pm CST:: Let’s not forget the forced provincial labor working alongside them. Under the blazing sun, carrying heavy baskets of sand and mixing volcanic ash concrete until their hands bleed. The discipline is terrifying, but that’s why these roads outlast empires.
osavaltevy @ 05:48 pm CST:: The layering is pure madness. First, they pack loose earth, then a layer of heavy stones (statumen), then gravel and concrete (rudus), and finally, those smooth basalt blocks on top. If the alignment is even one inch off, the centurions make them rip it out and start over.
Davetickk @ 05:42 pm CST:: 🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🗳🗳
osavaltevy @ 05:36 pm CST:: A Roman soldier isn't just a fighter; he’s a construction worker with a sword. Before a single stone is laid, the legions have to clear forests, cut through solid rock, and dig deep trenches (fossa) just to level the ground. No wonder they call them "Mariano’s Mules."
osavaltevy @ 05:35 pm CST:: We always praise the architects and generals for our incredible road network, but let’s talk about the actual hands that built them: our legionaries and local laborers. It is brutal, backbreaking work. 🥾⛏️ #RomanRoads #MilitaryLife #BehindTheScenes
Davetickk @ 05:23 pm CST:: 🗳🗳🔵🌊🌊🌊🌊🙋‍♂️🙆‍♂️
